Doug Augustson Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Doug Augustson Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 to honor a beloved member of CHMC’s Emergency Services team.
As an Emergency Medical Technician, Los Angeles City lifeguard, and accomplished HM2 Corpsman who served two tours of duty in Iraq, Doug lived to help others. After coming home from Iraq in October 2008, Doug returned to work with his “second family” at CHMC. Doug loved his job and his co-workers, and the daily opportunities to do what he did best: saving lives and helping people who were sick, hurt, scared and in pain.
Tragically, on June 12, 2009, at only 32 years of age, this incredible young man lost his life in a motorcycle accident. He was taken too soon from his many loved ones who considered him a son, brother, friend and role model.
But the story doesn’t end there.
To honor the life of her only child—the son she considers her “gift”— Doug’s mother, Rosalie Augustson, decided to make her own gift to establish a scholarship fund to support CHMC employees seeking to expand and enhance their skills in the field of emergency medicine.
Please consider making a gift today in memory of Doug and in celebration of his life. The life-saving work that Doug performed at California Hospital is carried on today by his colleagues—help us support their efforts to become the best caregivers they can be through education and training.
