A mother's legacy: How Elosie Appel champions education for all

Inspired by her late mother Myrra—a trailblazing National Teacher of the Year—Eloise Appel has dedicated her life to leveling the educational playing field. For over three decades, Appel has been a driving force behind the success of Hope Street Margolis Family Center, transforming a professional connection into a profound personal mission.

What began as a consultant's role in the early 1990s quickly grew into an unwavering commitment. Eloise has been pivotal in developing evidence-based programs, securing grants and ensuring that Hope Street's services are always rooted in what truly works for families. Her core belief: every child deserves the same access to quality education, regardless of their family's economic background.

This conviction led Eloise and her siblings to establish the Myrra Lee College Support Fund, a family endeavor honoring her mother. This fund provides nearly $40,000 annually to help college-bound Hope Street alumni overcome financial hurdles, enabling them to complete their degrees and fundamentally shift their life paths. Beyond financial support, Eloise's leadership extends to the Calfiornia Hospital Medical Center Foundation Board of Directors and Hope Street Advisory Board, as well as co-chair of the Champions for Children Dinner, helping Hope Street achieve unprecedented success. For Eloise, her extraordinary generosity is simply carrying forward her mother's timeless lesson: those who are comfortable have a responsibility to uplift others.
